René Mendès-France

1888-1985

Mendès-France was born on June 27, 1888 in Paris. He painted primarily portraits and Spanish landscapes, the Forest of Fountainbleau and historical scenes.

He was one of the promoters of Effusionism. From 1920, he exhibited his work in Paris at the Salon des Independants,

which he then left to found the Salon des Surindependants, of which he remained president for many years.
