René Thomsen
1897 – 1976
René–Charles Thomsen was born in Paris in 1897. He studied
art with Louis Anquetin. He became a member of Société
de la Salon d’Automne and exhibited regularly there from 1921.
Thompson had several solo exhibitions in Paris galleries.
Thomsen received positive reviews from the critics Louis Vauxcelles,
Elie Faure, and Joaquim Gasquet. He was commissioned by the Musée
Versailles to paint a work commemorating the funeral of President Painlevé.
Thomsen’s works are in several museums, including Musée
National d’Art Moderne in Paris.
Thomsen’s paintings have a flavor of the Parisian sensitivity
of the period between the wars. Sensual nudes, painted with colorful
interiors were widely exhibited and these artists were well patronized.
