Gaston Simoes de Fonseca
1873-1954

Gaston Simoes de Fonseca was born October 16, 1874 in Rio de Janeiro. He established himself in Paris as a painter and illustrator and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1913 and 1914, where he received the Médaille de Bronze. From 1937 to 1943 Simoes de Fonseca exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants. He was awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur in 1929.

His works have since been exhibited in Paris and New York and have sold at auction by Sotheby’s and Swann Galleries.
