Francis Helps 1890-1972 Francis Helps was a British painter of portraits, landscapes and figure subjects. He was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and the National Portrait Society. He lived in London and later Ambleside. In 1924, Helps joined British explorer and mountaineer John Noel in his expedition to Mount Everest. He sketched many of the local people and expedition members; some of these original pencil drawings have survived. Helps exhibited at the Alpine Club Gallery, Beaux-Arts, International Society, the New English Art Club, the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists. |
