FRANZ VON MONTRFORT 1889 –1980
Von Montfort was a Belgian artist who came to work in Paris in 1923. He studied at the Royal Academy in Brussels where he won a first prize in painting.
Von Montfort exhibited regularly at the Salon des Indépendants beginning in 1926, where he finally won a gold medal in 1962. He exhibited in Paris at Galerie Drouant in a group with Jean De Botton, Jean Marembert, and Grigory Gluckmann.
Von Montfort experimented with Cubism and Futurism in the 1920s. There was a retrospective of his work at the Hotel Charlier in Brussels in 1982.
Von Montfort is considered a Belgian Expressionist, he is recognized in many books on the subject and recently there was a book published devoted to his works. He was a bold painter, he use his colors freely, and created outstanding nudes and portraits. His career spanned many decades.
