Henry Clive
1882-1960

Born Henry O'Hara, in Australia his childhood was spent on a sheep ranch outside Melbourne.

When we left Australia he made his way as a magician. He came to Hollywood and acted in several silent films.

Early in the 1920's, he began painting Ziegfeld Girls, then he painted stars like Gloria Swanson, and Polga Negri for promotion campaigns.

He was the art director for some Charlie Chaplin productions and even played a villain in the movie City Lights. He produced pastels for the True Confessions, and Screen Play Theater.

He began doing American Weeklies for Hearst, an association that lasted from the 1930s to the 1950s.

His pretty girl pastels also graced many a makeup tin and pencil box.

He also did calendar girls, and ad work for Vivadou, Servel Refrigerators.

He was one of the few illustrators not to stay married and tied the knot six times!

Clive's paintings are prized by collectors, but are rare, as only a few originals are known to exist.
