Hope Shipee Bunin was a self-taught artist who began her career decorating shop windows in New York.

Along with her husband, she created puppets, giving them individual character traits. She also produced entertainments for soldiers during World War II, some of which were later taken up by television.

Bunin was also known for her paintings, especially colorful market scenes, of the Lower East Side of New York.
