Lucien René
Mignon
1865-1944
Lucien René Mignon was born September 13, 1865 in Chateau-Gontier,
France and died March 13, 1944 in Paris. He was a painter who focused
on genre scenes, nude figures, landscapes and floral still lifes.
The artist first studied in Angers and later attended l’Ecoles
des Beaux-Arts in Paris under Leon Gerome. While in Cagnes the artist
befriended August Renoir and they often painted together. His style
has been closely linked to Renoir’s Ingres period.
Exhibitions during his lifetime include the Salon des Independants in
1910 and the Salon de la Societe Nationale de Beaux-Arts.
Mignon also received
the Prix Berton in 1920. The artist produced decorative paintings for
the Ministry of Public Works titled Four Seasons.
Institutions in Angers, Laval and Paris have collected Miignon’s
work. At auction his paintings have sold widely in Paris, London and
New York.
