William Malherbe
1884-1951

William Malherbe was born in Senlis, France in 1884.

Malherbe exhibited at the Salon d’Automne, and exhibited at Galerie Durand-Ruet in Paris. He illustrated a book in 1925, La Flame du Poing. He exhibited at the Corcoran in Washington D.C.

From 1939 to 1948 Malherbe lived in the United States, in Vermont. He is considered an American artist by some collectors and dealers.

Malherbe painted as a Post -Impressionist and there is a sense of Renoir in his technique. His paintings of beautiful women from around 1911-1914 are fascinating; the subjects seem to emerge from the canvas as the observer moves further back. He painted beautiful and colorful still lifes and outdoor scenes, and of course nudes.
