Rene Mendes-France

1888-1985

Mendes-France was born on June 27, 1888 in Paris.

Beginning in 1920 he exhibited at the Salon des Independants In Paris. He later left to found the Salon des Surindependants, or which he remained president for many years.

He executed portraits, Spanish landscapes, the Forest of Fontainebleau and also historical scenes. He was one of the promoters of ‘Effusionism’.
