Pierre Boucherle

1894-1988

Boucherle had provisions for the drawing very early in his life. He was a student at the Lycée Carnot in Tunis , he offered his first works for newspapers in Tunis.

Mobilized during the First World War, then he came to Paris. In the period of the inter-war , he met painters, first Modigliani and André Derain and Moïse Kisling , and Guillaume Apollinaire .

In 1923 , he received his first scholarship study trip to go to Spain to study art. He was a student at the École des Beaux-Arts in Tunis .

In 1931 he exhibited at the Paris Salon .

After World War II , he returned to Tunisia and created with other painters of the Group of Four, which quickly became the Group of Ten.

It is the prime contractor for decoration High School Carthage in 1951 , on the theme of the Mediterranean. He is also was the designer of the House of Tunisia to the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris during the years1952 and 1953 , creating a large tapestry woven in the Aubusson Workshop .

His work consists of nudes, landscapes and still lifes . His masterpiece most famous remains of the mill Goulette.

Pierre Boucherle died in 1988. Tunisia honors him with a big exhibition and the publication of a book in 1997 .
