Roland Gaubert was born on January 5, 1914 in Dôle, France.

He attended the schools of fine arts in Tours, Dijon and Algiers, where he did his military service, and in 1937 the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where he studied in the studio of Charles Guérin. He also worked at the Grande Chaumière academy.

In his own particular manner and approach, he being a cubist interpretation to the world around him, showing the road leading to his house, a widow, and orphan or a couple. He captures instants, moments of life, in fragmented form.

From 1937 he took part in group exhibitions: in 1937 the Exposition Internationale in Paris; in 1946 the Salon des Artistes Indépendents in Paris; in 1955 the Menton Biennale; in 1962 the Confrontation exhibition with B. Buffet, Manessier, Picasso, Singier and Couty in Dijon. In 1938 he held his first solo exhibition in Paris at the Galerie L’Equipe, where he later exhibited with Le Moal, Esteve, Tal Coat and Gischia. In 1986 the Musée de Dole held a retrospective of his work. Gaubert received numberous prizes and awards and in 1983 was made a Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.
