René Deydier
1882-1942
René Deydier was born in Avignon, France in 1882.
Though he exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris, little
else in know about him.
He painted wonderful images of Parisian life on the seedier side of
town. Several of his paintings depict the interior of the Bal Musette
on the Rue De Lappe, a working class bar near the Bastille. His characters
often dressed in stripped sweaters and wearing typical French caps,
sexy coquettes milling around. These romantic scenes, with a Jazz band
in the back, were popular subjects of the period.
