Valentine Lecomte 1872 - Valentine Lecomte was born on February 9, 1872 in Paris, France. She was a pupil of Tony Robert–Fleury. Lecomte exhibited in Paris, at the Salon of the Société des Artistes Français from 1893. Most of her paintings are now in England in private collections. Lecomte began sketching Isadora Duncan in 1903 and continued to do so throughout the dancer's lifetime. This has resulted in an oeuvre, which covers the entire span of Isadore's career and shows the changes in her dance from lyrical to dramatic and then tragic (as Isadora Duncan was sadly killed in a car accident in 1927). In 1952, The Dance of Isadora Duncan, a portfolio of 37 plates of drawings was published by Lecomte and Raymond Duncan (Isadora's brother). In addition to painting, Lecomte also illustrated the Histoire de Bayard and Histoire de mes bêtes by Alexandre Dumas. |
