Jean-Marie
Vervisch Jean Vervisch
was born in Etterbeek Belgium in 1896. He was a student at l’Académie
de Saint-Josse-ten-Noode. Vervisch
traveled to North Africa and Italy in subsequent years, like many artists
of his generation. He lived for thirty years in Maraiakerke-Ostende,
Belgium. Vervisch
was a Postimpressionist, he used Cubist elements in his early work,
and later the Expressionist technique of his fellow Belgian Modernists.
He painted nudes, still lifes, and landscapes, always with a passion
that is evident in the vibrant period in which he lived. There was a retrospective of his paintings at Galerie Patrick Lancz in Brussells in the late 1990’s; an impressive catalogue was produced with many illustrations of his work.
