Georges Villa

1883-1965

 

Georges Elias Villa Marie was born on january 24 1883. He was best known as a cartoonist, caricaturist, engraver and illustrator.

He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français. Known for his excellent portraiture skills, he was invited to Russia by the Grand Duke Vladimir, uncle of Tsar Nicolas II in order to execute portraits of officers. In 1908 he accompanied a Russian archaeological mission in Egypt.

His works are included in the Montmartre Museum, additionally he was awarded the Legion of Honour.
